Nadia and Carol
Nadia Comaneci was born on December 12, 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti), Romania. Nadia is the Romanian Olympic gymnast and she is the only person to be recognized with 10/10 scores in an Olympic competition. Bela Karrolyi, the Romanian gymnastics instructor, who was later Comaneci's coach, first discovered Comaneci aged six. Her first competitive event was the National Junior Championships which she finished 13th in the year 1969. In the year 1970, she was crowned champion. In 1972, at the communist nations' meet for juniors before the Olympics, she took home three medals of gold. In 1973 and 1974 she won the all-around junior champ. When she competed for the first time as a senior athlete in the year 1975, she beat the Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva, a five-time European champion winning four gold medals and one silver.
